Singapore’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dominic Goh, hailed the flourishing economic partnership with Egypt during a reception in Cairo on Sunday to mark the republic’s 60th Independence Day.
Ambassador Goh revealed that Singapore is now the fifth largest Asian investor in Egypt, with 129 Singaporean companies active in the country and total investments reaching $700 million.

Addressing dignitaries and guests at the event, Ambassador Goh noted the significance of Egypt as Singapore’s partner in the Middle East.
“Egypt was the first Arab country in the world to recognise Singapore, 59 years ago, when we became independent,” he said.
He also highlighted that Egypt was the first nation in the region to welcome President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, emphasising the longstanding bilateral ties.
Ambassador Goh further noted the leader’s September visit to Cairo, during which 14 agreements were signed in the fields of transportation, logistics, and smart port management.
He invited attendees to look forward to further activities in 2026, when the two nations will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, spoke of the vibrant cooperation between the two countries.
“Our relations have flourished with co-operation worthy of being recorded in the annals of genuine partnership,” Minister Farouk said.
He cited joint programmes and agreements in maritime transport, logistics, technical education, agriculture, food security, renewable energy, digital transformation, and smart management as evidence of progress beyond traditional frameworks.
Minister Farouk emphasised Egypt’s role as a pivotal global trade hub through the Suez Canal and recognised Singapore’s expertise in smart port management and integrated economic zones.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development under Vision 2030 and highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation.
“Building bridges between Asia and Africa is essential for achieving a new economic and human balance in a rapidly changing world,” he added.
