The Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) has said that Germany’s Siemens company will take part in developing the infrastructure of Egypt’s railways.

In a report published on Wednesday themed “Siemens will take part in Egypt’s plan to develop the infrastructure of railways”, the cabinet said Siemens company announcement on its new project to build a network of high-speed trains would contribute to the linkage of Egyptian ports.

It pointed out that the 660KM-long line between Ein Sokhna and Marsa Matrouh will shorten the travel period as the trip on the line between Sokhna and Alexandria will take 2 hours instead of 4 by car.

It added the train will also facilitate the movement of cargo and reduce gas emission by 70 percent compared to buses.

It will also provide 15,000 new job opportunities, said the report, pointing out that consortium (Siemens-The Arab Contractors company and Orascom Construction) would help add one billion dollars to Egypt’s GDP.
