Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said his talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov focused on a common goal of developing the two countries’ relations at all levels for the best interests of the two peoples and achieving economic growth.

At a joint conference with Lavrov after their session of talks, Shoukry voiced happiness over his negotiations with the Russian foreign minister which extended for more than two hours.

Talks covered bilateral relations, Shoukry said, noting that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is growing and it is important to maintain and expand such exchange of commodities.

Shoukry also noted that talks covered the regional and international conditions of joint interest, asserting that Egypt, along with the whole international community, are deeply willing to see an end to military confrontations with Ukraine.

As regards the Arab region, the Egyptian top diplomat said talks covered the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the importance of reaching a cool-off for tensions between the Israeli and Palestinians sides, pressing the need for working out a political solution based on the two-state solution and establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967th borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also pressed the need for intensifying international efforts and urged the international community to assume its responsibilities in accordance with the international terms of reference to reach a final solution to the conflict that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinians.
