CAIRO- Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a telephone call on Sunday from his Comoran counterpart Dhoihir Dhoulkamal for consultations and coordination vis-a-vis the current conflict in Sudan.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said the call from the Comoran top diplomat whose country holds the rotating presidency of the African Union, reflects the regional organization’s keenness on consulting with Sudan’s neighboring countries to end the crisis that poses a great threat to the continent’s peace and security.
The two sides expressed during the conversation their deep concern about the repeated violations of the ceasefire by the two warring sides in Sudan and the growing threats to civilians and foreign communities.
Shoukry posted Dhoulkamal on steps taken by Egypt to begin evacuating its nationals from Sudan and efforts it is exerting to encourage the two conflicting parties to reach a permanent ceasefire deal and alleviate the sufferings of the brotherly Sudanese people.
He asserted the need for both parties to show wisdom and respond to efforts to calm the situation to spare the country the catastrophic consequences of any further violent escalations.
