Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said on Wednesday that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Bahrain has witnessed fruitful, in-depth talks between the two countries’ leaderships in various fields.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as ways to strengthen and support them, especially in the economic field, Shoukry told a joint press conference with his Bahraini counterpart Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani in the Bahraini capital Manama.
The talks touched on means of boosting bilateral trade, supporting joint investments, and fostering co-operation in the fields of tourism, clean energy, environment, financial co-operation, and transport, among others, Shoukry said.
These talks culminated in the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and co-operation programmes between Egypt and Bahrain in the fields of investment, environment, judiciary, in addition to other areas of common interest, he added.
The foreign minister noted that the political leaderships of both countries also discussed the most important regional and international issues and crises, in addition to ways to address them through joint coordination.
President Sisi’s talks with Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa have focused on means of combating terrorism and terrorist organisations, preventing terrorist financing, and sparing the region destabilising activities in all their forms, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said.
The foreign minister added that President Sisi’s visit to Bahrain and his fraternal talks with the Bahraini king on various files have confirmed the strength of historical relations between the two sisterly countries and their peoples.
He noted that Cairo is constantly keen to support and develop its relations with Manama in all fields.
Shoukry asserted that he, as well as all the Egyptian people, wishes Bahrain permanent prosperity and progress.
The visit has also provided an opportunity for Sisi’s meeting with the Bahraini crown prince and prime minister, he noted.
