RAMALLAH – Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry described on Monday his talks with the foreign ministers of the US, the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain and Israel in Negev, Israel, as important and constructive.
Addressing a press conference with the foreign ministers, Shoukry said the discussions provided a chance for strengthening relations to face the region’s challenges.
He appreciated the invitation extended to him to the attend the Negev meeting describing it as unique.
The foreign ministers of Egypt, the US, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco arrived in Israel on Sunday ahead of the meeting where they were greeted by Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Yair Lapid, said Israeli media reports.
The Egyptian foreign minister said his meeting with the foreign ministers of the US, UAE, Morocco, Bahrain and Israel coincides with the 43rd anniversary of signing the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty which positively affected the two countries’ relations.
He said the Negev talks provided a chance for shedding light on more progress in joint goals among countries.
He said the talks by the foreign ministers who attended the Negev meeting stressed the importance of peace between the Palestinians and Israelis through the establishment of a Palestinian state living side by side with Israel on the 1967 borders.
The foreign minister said that Egypt exerted strenuous efforts to help the Palestinians and Israelis reach a settlement ending the conflict between them, hailing the US role in that respect.
Shoukry condemned all forms of terrorism and violence calling on the international community to face incitement to terrorism and reject foreign interference in the domestic affairs of countries which affected the security and stability of the region.
