Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting in New York on Wednesday with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ delegate to the UN over the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) ahead of a Security Council session, slated for Thursday.
Talks come as part of Shoukry’s ongoing meetings for the third consecutive day with members of the UNSC to point out Egypt’s stance towards the mega dam.
During the meetings, the Egyptian foreign minister reiterated his country’s firm stand on the GERD issue, which calls for the necessity of reaching a legal and binding agreement on the filling and operation of the dam, taking into account the interests of the three countries and preserving Egypt’s rights and its water benefits.
Tomorrow session comes upon the request of Egypt and Sudan after Ethiopia announced its plans to start the second filling of the dam.
