Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting in New York city on Wednesday with the Estonia’s permanent representative to the UN to point out Egypt’s position towards the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) ahead of a Security Council session, slated for Thursday.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez tweeted that talks come as part of Shoukry’s ongoing meetings with members of the UNSC over Ethiopia’s mega dam.
During the meetings, the Egyptian foreign minister reiterated his country’s firm stand on the GERD issue, which calls for the necessity of reaching a legal and binding agreement on the filling and operation of the dam, taking into account the interests of the three countries and preserving Egypt’s rights and its water benefits.
