The Egyptian Foreign Minister and President-Designate of the 27th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt’s keenness on rendering the climate summit successful in order to reach the aspired targets and meet the ambitions of all participants with regard to top-priority climate issues, especially adapting to climate change, curbing its fallout and securing finance for climate action.
This came during Shoukry’s meeting on Wednesday with Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry hailed during the meeting the level of cooperation between Egypt and the UNFCCC secretary.
Abu Zeid said Shoukry reviewed during the meeting the latest developments with regard to preparations for COP27, which is due to be held in Sharm el Sheikh in November and is expected to push forward the international climate action.
For his part, Stiell voiced appreciation for the current coordination between the two sides at all levels, expressing confidence that Egypt’s presidency of the conference is capable of meeting the aspirations of the participants in view of the current international challenges.
