Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted Egypt’s full support of stability, peace and prosperity in Tunisia.

This came during his meeting with Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar on Friday ahead of the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly due to be held on February 18-19 at the level of heads of state and government.

In statements, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zaid said Shouky congratulated his Tunisian counterpart on assuming his post, stressing the importance of continued action toward enhancing bilateral ties, as well as boosting consultations and coordination regarding issues of mutual interest.

For his part, the Tunisian minister underlined the importance of consolidating bilateral relations, expressing his appreciation of close communication between the two countries’ leaders, the spokesman said.

They also exchanged views on the conditions in Libya, he added.

The foreign minister stressed the necessity of backing the constitutional course of the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State to hold presidential and legislative elections, according to the spokesman.

The Tunisian foreign minister stressed the importance of Libya’s security for the national security of the two countries, noting that Cairo and Tunis are in full agreement on backing the existing process, conducted under the auspices of the United Nations, to hold elections and support the inter-Libyan solution, he said.

They also stressed the necessity of the full withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya that will highly affect the security conditions in Libya’s neighboring countries, added the spokesman.
