CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawi said that Egypt embraced a number of projects and programmes for the integrated management of solid waste through co-operation among the local administration, the private sector and the civil society organisations.
The minister’s remarks were made during his participation via video conference in the 3rd African Clean Cities Platform (ACCP) Assembly, which is currently in session in Tunisia.
He reviewed the efforts exerted by Egypt to develop the system of management of solid waste since 2019. He said the upgrade of the system covered the assembly, transport, treatment of waste as well as the recycling and treatment of waste with the application of modern technologies.
The minister also Egypt, as part of preparations for the UN Climate Conference, has worked hard to upgrade the administration of managing solid waste including the recycling plants, the collection stations as well as the safe landfill sites with total investments amounting to LE12 billion.
He also asserted that Egypt is keen on carrying the pioneering experiment of smart management of solid waste to other African states through the ACCP to become a mechanism for exchanging expertise in the sustainable management of solid waste.
