Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam underscored the importance of COP27 UN Climate Conference in presenting challenges facing the African continent in water and food.
That is encouraging the Swedish side to offer necessary support to African countries to overcome the challenges, support green policy and achieve Sustainable Development Goals in Africa, added Sewilam in an address during the opening ceremony of Swedish Business Pavilion on the sidelines of COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh Monday, in the presence of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson.
The Egyptian official thanked Sweden for organizing this important pavilion.
Kristersson said his participation at COP27 emanates from good relations binding Egypt and Sweden.
Sewilam hailed support offered by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) to Egypt and Africa in the water domain, as a strategic partner to the irrigation ministry and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) in water resources management.
He as well praised deep, strong and profound cooperation in different international forums.
He highlighted the importance that Sweden offers grants and technical assistance to African countries in the water sector, pointing out to Egypt’s efforts to boost South-South cooperation.
Sewilam said Swedish water organizations and financing agencies play an important role in backing an adaptation initiative in the water sector, which will be launched by Egypt during COP27.
