Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam asserted the ministry’s bodies have been playing a pivotal role in coordination with all bodies concerned to efficiently deal with the recent heavy rainfall to face up to any consequences.
A wave of bad weather and heavy rain battered the governorates of Alexandria and Beheira amid consecutive gales during the period between January 15 and February 5.
The minister said authorities in Alexandria and Beheira have deployed vehicles and equipment to remove the standing water in streets to address any emergencies.
He added the governorates have also adopted a number of measures to deal with any accumulations and spillways over rains in streets in coordination with local units.
Sewilam underscored the importance of following up on rainwater suction works to clear water from roadways, whether away from main or side streets.
