The Senate under Abdel Wehab Abdel Razeq discussed on Monday a request for a general discussion presented by 21 MPs on the government’s policy on exporting the electricity surplus to European countries including Greece, Italy and others.
The electricity deficit in Egypt has turned into a surplus that can be exported after completing 30 electric power production stations and establishing a solar energy compound to produce electric power, a memorandum said, adding that the electric surplus reached around 13,000 megawatts in 2020.
The revenue expected from exporting the electric surplus to the European countries would contribute to increasing the hard currency.
