Egypt’s Armed Forces, in cooperation with Interior Ministry units, carried out a large-scale campaign in the Southern Military Zone targeting criminal hotspots exploited by organized networks for illegal activities including drug and arms trafficking, unlicensed gold mining, and human smuggling.
The raids led to the arrest of 87 Egyptians and 136 foreigners, along with 14 vehicles, wireless communication devices, cash in local and foreign currency, unlicensed weapons and ammunition, and extensive equipment used in illegal mining. Several infiltrators without residency documents were also detained and referred to judicial authorities in line with international law.
During the operation, some illegal entrants voluntarily surrendered to security checkpoints and were repatriated with full humanitarian care.
Law enforcement forces continue intensive field operations to clear criminal hotspots and pursue outlaws as part of ongoing efforts to secure Egypt’s borders and strengthen national stability. The Egyptian state reaffirmed that it retains all available options to confront threats and has the capability to protect its territory and the resources of its people under all circumstances.
