Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Vice Admiral Osama Rabie, held talks on Tuesday with Vice Chairman of TEDA Egypt Investment Company and Managing Director of TEDA China-Africa Wei Jianqing.
The two sides explored avenues for expanding co-operation and advancing industrial development in the Suez Canal region.
Rabie reaffirmed the SCA’s commitment to fostering greater integration with the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), while boosting collaboration with industrial developers and investors.
He stressed that such collaboration is key to maximising the strategic advantages of the Canal’s location and transforming its surrounding areas into a global industrial and logistics hub.
The SCA chairman underscored the Authority’s openness to broadening co-operation with TEDA, describing the Chinese firm as a leading industrial developer in Ain Sokhna and a strategic partner in advancing the region’s industrialisation agenda. He highlighted the importance of aligning efforts to unlock new investment opportunities and enhance the competitiveness of the Suez Canal corridor.
For his part, Jianqing expressed TEDA’s strong interest in deepening ties with the SCA and exploring new areas of co-operation that would serve the mutual interests of both sides. He noted that the TEDA industrial estate in Ain Sokhna has witnessed significant expansion over the past five years, driven by strong political support and the growing depth of Egypt–China relations at both diplomatic and economic levels.
He attributed this progress to sustained backing from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, as well as to the broader strategic partnership between Cairo and Beijing.
The meeting discussed also means to enhance collaboration to support the continued development of the TEDA industrial estate.
Both sides stressed the importance of leveraging the Suez Canal’s unique capabilities in maritime and logistics services to reinforce the its role as a regional manufacturing and export platform.
The talks also explored potential co-operation in localising the maritime industries sector, including shipbuilding, maintenance and repair services.
Rabie said that the Egyptian government is making great strides to position the Suez Canal region as a cornerstone of industrial growth and international trade.
