A co-operation protocol was signed on Saturday between the Suez Canal Aquaculture Company, a subsidiary of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), and the Lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency (LFRPDA).
The move is aimed to develop Egypt’s fisheries sector and expand export opportunities.
SCA Chairman Vice Admiral Osama Rabie attended the signing ceremony, which took place at the authority’s headquarters in Ismailia.
The agreement aims to strengthen integration between the two sides and facilitate the exchange of technical and administrative expertise in areas including training, dredging operations and infrastructure development.
Under the protocol, several areas of co-operation will be pursued, most notably the training of fishermen working on fishing vessels affiliated with the SCA in line with the latest safe and sustainable fishing practices.
The agreement is also meant to upgrade the authority’s fish farms to obtain international quality and certification standards, paving the way for export opportunities and increasing the added value of aquaculture products. In addition, the protocol stipulates the establishment of an integrated quality management system at the SCA’s fish sorting, packaging, processing and freezing facility.
