Chairman of Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie on Sunday said that “Fakhr Al-Qanah”, or “the Pride of the Canal”, floating dry dock represents a quantum leap and adds new capabilities in ship repair and maintenance for large ships and naval units transiting the canal.
The move comes in line with the SCA strategy to diversify the sources of income through providing additional services for transiting vessels.
Rabie, in an interview with Good Morning Egypt TV Program, said: “Ships crossing the Suez Canal may need repair and maintenance under water; here comes the significance of the floating dock where the ships could be lifted for repair and maintenance operations.”
The new floating dry dock is the latest addition to the Port Said Naval Base, which includes three other floating docks used for the maintenance and repair of ships and naval units belonging to the Authority, with capacities ranging from 5,000 to 25,000 tons.
