Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem met with Saint-Gobain Egypt CEO Ahmed Wafik and company officials to discuss the group’s expansion plans and ongoing projects in Egypt.
Saint-Gobain’s investments in Egypt have doubled from €250 million in 2009 to €500 million.
The meeting reviewed two new factories set to start production by September 2026.
The first plant is in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.(SCZone) It will produce specialized glass for automotive and solar industries. The project is valued at €175 million. It will produce 900 tonnes per day and help cut imports by about $35 million annually.
The second plant is in Sadat City. It will produce gypsum boards with investments of €40 million. About 60% of production will be exported. The project will create around 600 direct and indirect jobs.
Hashem said the government will fully support the company’s expansion. He stressed the importance of localizing technology and promoting green manufacturing in building materials.
He praised Saint-Gobain as a global leader in sustainable materials. He said the projects align with Egypt’s plan to attract green investments and reduce environmental impact.
The minister also discussed challenges facing the projects. He stressed the government’s commitment to supporting foreign investors and removing obstacles.
Wafik said Egypt is a key market for the group. He confirmed that expansion plans are moving forward on schedule, with a focus on sustainability and quality.
