Since its establishment in September 1968, the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights has played a crucial role in enhancing the Arab human rights system, affirmed Arab League (AL) Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs Haifa Abu Ghazaleh.

AL Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit appreciates the efforts exerted by the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights in promoting Arab human rights and coordinating stances regarding human rights issues, topped by the Palestinian cause, added Abu Ghazaleh during the opening of the 49th ordinary session of the
Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights on Tuesday.

The committee plays a crucial role in maintaining communication with the governmental, regional and international organizations along with the national institutions and the Arab NGOs operating in the human rights field, she added.

Abu Ghazaleh, meanwhile, said that it is important to find a suitable mechanism for cooperation and coordination among the four components of the human rights system, which is operating under the umbrella of the Arab League.
