Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker on Wednesday met with Jean Peter Nul, General Manager of the Belgian firm Jean De Nul for co-operation talks on renewable energy.
The minister re-iterated his pledge to have renewable energy account for 42 per cent of Egypt’s energy mix by 2035, given the abundance of resources for wind and solar energies.
The energy sector is keen to encourage private sector participation in the ministry’s renewable energy projects, the minister added, noting that a large number of investors from the foreign and local private sector have expressed interest in this area.
The government is looking to to expand the use of renewable energy for purposes of desalination, Shaker said.
Shaker referred to co-operation with international companies in green hydrogen projects according to the terms of 23 memoranda of understanding in this regard, plus nine framework agreements with major companies in this area during COP27.
