CAIRO – Arab League’s Assistant Secretary General Haifa Abu Ghazaleh said on Thursday many Arab countries have been going through economic and social challenges, and the region is still recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic as well as its difficult social, humanitarian and economic repercussions.

However, this will not prevent the launch of several key initiatives that affect the lives of Arab citizens and focus on vulnerable and fragile segments in society, especially people with disabilities, the elderly and children, Abu Ghazaleh added.

The official made the remarks during a speech she delivered at the 111th session of the Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo.

The meeting was chaired by Mauritania.

Abu Ghazaleh highlighted the Arab tendency to continue the 2030 sustainable development process as well as to continue implementing Arab and international agreements, treaties and covenants.

She also pointed out to the keenness shown by Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit to take part in social and economic initiatives.
