A regional conference on the design and planning of airports, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization “ICAO”, kicked off on Tuesday in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada.

The event will explore the latest airport designing and planning systems and policies, Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) Ashraf Noweir said in his speech at the opening session.

It will also tackle the foundations and mechanisms of future airport development planning, Noweir added.

Participants will also share relevant expertise to support the civil aviation industry.

Meanwhile, today’s sessions included presentations by representatives of the US Federal Aviation Authority and the International Air Transport Association about the factors that must be taken into account with regard to future airport development planning, such as expected air traffic, the number of passengers, and development projects in surrounding areas.

Participants also discussed how to promote coordination among all the sectors and authorities concerned with airport planning.

The conference is held in coordination with the ECAA, under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, represented by the Egyptian Company for Airports in Hurghada. It will wrap up on Thursday.
