Egyptian Ambassador in Italy Bassam Radi and director general of the World Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) discussed in Rome on Tuesday the global food crisis and its repercussions on the high costs of living in the entire world. They also discussed efforts to boost joint co-operation between Egypt and the FAO.
Ambassador Radi said that the current stage makes it incumbent upon the international community, more than ever, to strengthen joint co-operation and develop ways to confront food security challenges locally, regionally and globally.
Ambassador Radi also affirmed that Egypt is proud of its strategic partnership with FAO, especially since Egypt hosts the FAO regional office for the Near East region, in addition to its country office.
He noted that these offices are expected to be moved to the headquarters of international organisations building in Cairo, which is being constructed at the highest standards in the Diplomatic Quarter of the New Administrative Capital.
For his part, the FAO director general expressed appreciation for the pivotal role played by Egypt in the organisation’s work. He also lauded President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s interest in achieving food security, increasing agricultural production and land reclamation.
