Jassim al Buainain, Director of the Libraries Department at the Qatari Ministry of Culture, asserted his country’s keenness on participating in the 55th Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) which an important cultural event.
In statements to MENA, Buainain said Qatar’s participation in the event contributes to enhancing cultural ties with Egypt and communicating with those working in the cultural domain.
He added that Qatar’s participation in the CIBF also promotes for the Doha International Book Fair, due to be held in May.
Over 100 Qatari books are displayed at CIBF, he said.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli opened the CIBF at Egypt Center for International Exhibitions and Conferences, in the Fifth Settlement.
About 1,200 Arab and foreign publishers take part in this year’s fair.
Norway is the guest of honor of the fair which is held from January 25 to February 5.
Egyptologist Selim Hassan was selected as the fair’s character and writer Yacoub Sharoni as the character of child book fair.
