Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag held a meeting with North Sinai Governor Mohamed Abdel Fadil Shousha, on the sidelines of her visit to the governorate on Friday.
During the meeting, the minister was briefed on the social projects being carried out in North Sinai. Qabbag issued directives to the authorities concerned to finish them on schedule and according to the highest global standards and specifications.
Following the meeting, the minister and the governor toured housing units, being constructed in Sheikh Zuweid. Qabbag also inspected social units in the governorate. These units are aimed to provide social, economic and medical services for families there and to hold dialogue with young people to find out needs and basic requirements.
Within the framework of the campaign launched by the Ministry of Social Solidarity for the people of Sheikh Zuweid, Minister Qabbag announced a decision to double the families benefiting from Solidarity and Dignity programme (Takaful wa Karama) with the chief aim of meeting basic needs at the current stage as families started to return to their places after years of absence due to war on terrorism.
She said that the ministry will provide roughly LE94 million for small and micro projects, being carried out by young people in Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah.
The minister of social solidarity affirmed that the economic and social development of the local communities in North Sinai aims to consolidate stability, security and national unity.
She said that the development and integration plan implemented by the Ministry of Social Solidarity envisages the expansion of economic empowerment with priority to achieve justice and equal opportunities in distributing resources. She stressed the importance of focusing on investing in the human capital of Sinai to improve social, economic, health and educational levels, in coordination with the relevant ministries and civil society organisations, whether inside or outside Sinai.
Qabbag said that within the framework of the strategy for the reconstruction and development of North Sinai, the ministry has launched many social protection programmes to the families most in need.
The minister was keen to meet the chieftains of Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah tribes. During the meeting, Qabbag reviewed social protection programmes in the North Sinai Governorate, stressing that the state will spare no effort in supporting the people of Sinai.
