Egypt’s Ambassador in Rome Bassam Rady described the discovery of another passageway in the Great Pyramind as “the most important of the century so far”.
The horizontal corridor approximately 9 metres long located directly behind the northern entrance was an historic discovery made over 8 years by an Egyptian team and experts from research centres in France, Germany, Canada and Japan.
Dr Hani Helal, who is a former minister of higher education and scientific research, was invited to address a symposium on the passageway above the entrance to the Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops).
Hilal said the team used geo-radar, acoustic measurement, 3D digital architectural simulation to survey the pyramids and conduct the discovery.
Several leading Italian archaeologists and representatives from tour companies attended the event.
