Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that Russia is not preparing for war with Europe, insisting there are no grounds or motives for such a conflict.
In remarks reported by Russia Today, Putin claimed that “aggressive circles in Europe” were attempting to use Ukraine as “cannon fodder” against Russia to obstruct the country’s development. He dismissed assertions regarding a Russian threat and calls to prepare for war with Moscow as deliberate escalation and provocation.
Addressing potential peace talks, Putin said Moscow would determine whether to resume negotiations with Ukraine based strictly on its own national interests. He noted that while Russia had been prepared to return to the negotiating table following elections, Kyiv had launched strikes targeting Moscow and polling stations.
“All proposals for a peaceful settlement are on the table,” Putin said, adding that Russia must carefully evaluate which proposals align with its goals. He warned that Kyiv must recognise that further escalation would bring no positive outcomes and would only worsen the situation.
Putin also expressed support for ongoing diplomatic discussions between the United States and China, noting that any agreements reached between the two nations would have a global impact.
