Planning Minister Hala el-Said recently attended a seminar at Cairo University.
The seminar, ‘Dialogue on ‘Decent Life’, the Presidential Initiative to Develop the Egyptian Countryside’, was organised by Cairo University Faculty of Economics and Political Science.
Cairo University Presdient Dr. Mohamed Othman el-Khasht and senior staff members attended the event, in which el-Said spoke of her ministry’s three-year plan, from which the government work programme will emerge.
The government work programme will serve a set of goals: building the Egyptian human being, economic development, more efficient government performance, protection of national security and Egyptian foreign policy, cutting unemployment, and improving living standards.
“The Ministry of Planning includes an automated system to follow up on what has been achieved from among these goals every quarter,” el-Said said, adding that the goals of ‘Decent Life’ initiative are raising the standard of living, improving sanitation and drinking water services, as well as reducing class sizes in schools, and improving healthcare facilities, setting up more youth and sports centres, and integrating work by small projects.
‘Decent Life’ was launched in 2018 and, in accordance with instructions from the political leadership, must be implemented within four years, el-Saeed said.
The planning process follows the scientific methodological base that relies on evidence-based planning and relying on databases that are compiled to control targeting, el-Saeed added.
Regarding the accomplishments of the first phase of Decent Life, el-Said referred to the work of 255 medical convoys, as the focus is on those governorates that need health services.
As for educational services, el-Said spoke of the adult literacy programmes and the refurbishment of nursery schools.
El-Said said sanitation availability had improved by about 64 percentage points and 46 sanitation projects had been completed.
Loans of LE896 million were made available for the initiative and 123,000 jobs have been created the villages covered by Decent Life.
