Governor of Qalioubia Abdel Hamid el-Haggan on Tuesday assessed progress to date in the restoration and maintenance of the Mohamed Ali Palace in Shubra and the Ring Road expansion.
The governor issued directives to the officials concerned to finish the projects on schedule and in accordance with the highest international standards and specifications.
El-Haggan toured the area around Mohamed Ali Palace and al-Montazah Street.
A date is yet to be set for its official opening. Once reopened, the palace will be a great addition to the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the governor said in a statement on Tuesday.
Restoration work on the palace is very nearly complete, the governor said.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is using the latest modern technologies for the restoration work.
The Mohamed Ali Palace in Shubra was the first building to have modern lighting system, devised by an English engineer M. Galaway, who was summoned to electrify the palace in 1820.
The palace, one of the most outstanding monuments of Egypt’s architectural heritage, displays a fusion of European decorative motifs with the spirit of Islamic architectural planning.
El-Haggan also toured expansion work on the ring road and spoke with workers and engineers on any problems they had encountered and their solutions.
The tour came in line with directives from the political leadership to follow up ongoing national projects nationwide.
