JEDDAH – Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy asserted that Egypt has permanently been keen on supporting joint Arab action not through slogans but rather actual actions that serve the interests of all the Arab peoples.

Interviewed by CBC Channel late Thursday, Fahmy said Egypt views the Arab unity as a shared factor that was proved by geographical and historical facts along with the civilization background between Egypt and the Arab states.

He reiterated that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi was never reluctant to respond to any Arab call and sought to settle any crises and problems that could lead to a better life for all Arab peoples.

Fahmy said the ultimate objective for President Sisi and other Arab states is to settle all Arab problems that have been accumulating over the past decades.

It is most appropriate that the objective of all Arabs is to push forward a swift and specific action to settle all crises for good.

He made it clear that Egypt has a certain agenda to float during the summit to review a number of ideas, axes and important issues that will be raised during President Sisi’s speech and his discussions with the Arab kings and heads of state.

He said one of such key axes is the necessity of intensifying Arab efforts towards achieving a real unity, noting that the Arab unity does not mean identicality but it could allow differences in views and visions.

The spokesman also affirmed that closing Arab ranks could also mean integration among the Arab states in order to reach clear and common objectives.

Fahmy stated the Jeddah summit is held amid complicated regional and international challenges, as the Sudanese crisis takes its toll on the region and the situation in Palestine is witnessing serious escalation.

The spokesman said, according to MENA, the summit will see Syria restore its seat at the Arab League, expressing Egypt’s hope that Syria’s return will help settle the Syrian crisis, in accordance with UN Resolution 2254 to end the Syrian people’s suffering and stop foreign interference.

Regarding the normalization of Saudi-Iranian relations, the spokesman said Egypt welcomes this move and hopes it could encourage regional countries to find consensual solutions to any disputes in the region.

Concerning the Sudanese crisis, the spokesman explained that Egypt has been calling for providing humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people and stabilizing the current truce to reach a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire.

In this regard, the spokesman asserted Egypt seeks to activate the role of the joint Arab committee concerned with Sudan, which comprises Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Arab League, to peacefully settle the Sudanese problem.

The spokesman underlined the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) topic has been always on the Arab summit’s agenda.
