Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Bassam Radi presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Non-Resident in San Marino to the Captain Regents of the Republic of San Marino.
Ambassador Radi conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, asserting that Egypt is ready to strengthen co-operation between the two countries in all fields.
San Marino, of which the heads of state are known as regent captains, is the oldest sovereign state in the world. This country covering an area of 61.2 square kilometres and landlocked by Italy was founded on 3 September 301 AD.
San Marino’s constitution, written in1600, is the world’s oldest.
The government of San Marino is unlike any other nation as it has no president, prime minister, king or anyone holding a title used by a head of government.
San Marino is perhaps the only sovereign state that has a Captain Regent for a head of state. Also remarkable is that this tiny republic has two heads of state who are known as Captain Regents.
