President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reaffirmed the urgent need to reduce regional tensions and prevent further instability in the Middle East.
This reaffirmation was made during a phone call on Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
President Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to halt escalation and end conflicts in the region, stressing the importance of sparing regional populations from further instability, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shenawy said.
He stressed that the current tensions have serious repercussions on security, stability, and economic and trade interests both regionally and internationally, calling for coordinated regional and global efforts to bring the war to an immediate halt.
President Sisi also reaffirmed Egypt’s condemnation of Iranian attacks on the sovereignty of Arab nations, stressing the need to respect the territorial integrity of these states. He reasserted Egypt’s steadfast support for its Arab partners.
President Zelenskyy voiced appreciation for Egypt’s initiatives to promote calm and preserve regional stability, the presidency spokesman said. He agreed with President Sisi’s assessment regarding the dangers of continued escalation and outlined measures Ukraine is taking to prevent further tensions in the Middle East.
The two leaders also discussed developments in the Russia-Ukraine war. During the call, President Zelenskyy briefed President Sisi on the latest situation and thanked Egypt for its principled stance and commitment to ending the conflict. President Sisi emphasised the importance of pursuing peaceful solutions and reiterated Egypt’s support for all initiatives aimed at achieving a political settlement as soon as possible.
The phone talks touched on bilateral relations between Egypt and Ukraine. The two presidents agreed to continue strengthening co-operation across trade, investment, and food security, while exploring new opportunities to serve the interests of both nations.
