Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen in Cairo on Monday and discussed with him ways of boosting bilateral relations between Egypt and Denmark and regional issues. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati attended the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, Rasmussen conveyed greetings from Denmark’s Queen and Prime Minister to which President Sisi reciprocated, highlighting the strong relations between the two countries, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
Discussions focused on enhancing co-operation, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors, with President Sisi expressing valuation of the role of Danish companies in the furtherance of Egypt’s economic development.
In this connection, President Sisi emphasised the potential for expanded collaboration in areas such as energy, green transition, and maritime transport, which would benefit both nations, Spokesman Fahmy said.
Also considered during the meeting was situation in the Middle East, with the Danish foreign minister seeking President Sisi’s perspective on the region’s current scene. President Sisi stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and the exchange of detainees so as to salvage Gaza Strip inhabitants from the tragic living conditions they are suffering.
The Egyptian leader also underlined the importance of a serious and decisive process towards implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state to meet the aspiration of peoples of the region for justice, security, stability and development.
The Danish side agreed on this perspective and acknowledged the significance of supporting the humanitarian role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which faces ongoing challenges, the spokesman said.
The discussions further extended to other regional crises, particularly the situation in the Sudan. President Sisi stressed the necessity of supporting the Sudan and outlined Egypt’s efforts to restore stability there.
In this respect, President Sisi emphasised the need to respect Sudan’s sovereignty and national institutions, as well as the unity and integrity of its territory, while avoiding interference in its internal affairs. The president also stressed the importance of increasing humanitarian aid to address the worsening conditions faced by the Sudanese people, Spokesman Fahmy said.
Earlier in the day on Monday, FM Abdel-Aati had held a round of talks with Danish counterpart Rasmussen for a consideration of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
In a joint press conference they gave following the talks, Minister Abdel-Aati said that he and his Danish counterpart agreed that there could be no solution to the Palestinian cause except through ending the Israeli occupation of the occupied territories and pushing for the issue of recognizing and establishing the Palestinian state, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
On bilateral relations, FM Abdel-Aati noted great potentials for scaling up the volume of trade exchanges, referring in this connection to the role of Danish companies operating in the Egyptian market, the news agency added.
