Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi saw off Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Cairo International Airport on Wednesday, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The emir wrapped up a two-day landmark state visit to Cairo, his first since he took over the throne in December 2023.
The Kuwaiti emir sent a cable to President Sisi after the visit, voicing thanks to the Egyptian leader for the warm welcome and hospitality he received during his visit, “which reflected the sincere cordiality and appreciation, and demonstrated the well-established close fraternal relations binding the two countries and their peoples over long decades,” according to MENA new agency.
In addition, the visit reflects the fruitful and constructive co-operation between the two countries, and embodies keenness on bolstering it in all fields, to serve their common interests, and to achieve the expectations and hopes of their peoples.
Sheikh Mishal also voiced gratitude to President Sisi for awarding him the Order of the Nile, the highest Egyptian order. He also expressed best wishes for President Sisi and continued progress and prosperity for Egypt and the Egyptian people.
Sheikh Mishal was accompanied during his visit by a high-profile delegation, that included Minister of Finance and State Minister for Economic Affairs and Investment Anwar Ali Al-Mudhaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya, and senior Diwan officials, according to the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA).
President Sisi and Sheikh Mishal discussed on Tuesday the longstanding bilateral relations as well as the regional issues of common concern.
The developments in Gaza featured high on the agenda of the talks, as President Sisi and the emir stressed the dire need for concluding a sustainable ceasefire in ongoing Israeli war in Gaza, in addition to securing the safe access of humanitarian aid into the Strip, with sufficient quantities and in a sustainable manner.
They also warned against an Israeli potential military operation in Palestinian Rafah and its grave humanitarian consequences as well as its impact of regional stability. They also reiterated the necessity of addressing the Palestinian issue through the implementation of the two-state solution.
Sheikh Mishal voiced gratitude to Sisi for awarding him the Order of the Nile, expressing best wishes for Egypt to continue progress and prosperity under his leadership.
