President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a phone call on Sunday with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman to discuss the escalating military tensions in the region.
President Sisi condemned the targeting of Oman’s Duqm Port, warning of grave consequences of the region sliding into chaos if escalation continues.
He also reiterated Egypt’s unwavering position that dialogue and peaceful means are the sole path to resolving regional crises, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said.
Meanwhile, the president lauded Oman’s key role in mediation efforts, particularly in facilitating negotiations between the Iran and the US on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
The president voiced Egypt’s full solidarity with Arab states that have been hit by Iranian attacks, and stressed Cairo’s categorical rejection of any threats or violations against the sovereignty and stability of Arab nations, El-Shennawy added.
Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for whatever measures taken by these countries to safeguard their security and protect their people.
For his part, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq highly appreciatedEgypt’s stance and its commitment to peaceful resolution of conflicts, highlighting the historic fraternal ties between the two nations.
The two leaders agreed to continue consultations and coordination in the coming period to help contain the current escalation and avert further instability in the region, Spokesman El-Shennawy noted.
