President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Tuesday with Kenyan President William Ruto on the sidelines of the Africa–France Summit in Nairobi.
President Sisi thanked Ruto for the warm welcome and highlighted Egypt’s pride in its historic ties with Kenya. He expressed eagerness to activate the joint presidential declaration signed in January 2025 to elevate relations to a “comprehensive strategic partnership,” boosting economic integration and shared benefits from both countries’ resources and strategic positions. Ruto praised Egypt’s role in supporting development in Kenya and Nile Basin states.
The two leaders discussed cooperation on water resources. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to joint action with Kenya and Nile Basin countries to ensure mutual benefit and safeguard water security. Ruto echoed support for closer consultation and coordination among basin states to strengthen economic ties.
Regional issues were also addressed, particularly the situation in Sudan. The Egyptian president stressed Egypt’s firm stance on preserving Sudan’s unity and stability, calling for constructive roles by neighboring countries to restore peace and prevent worsening humanitarian conditions. He outlined Egypt’s vision of directing resources toward development rather than conflict. Ruto welcomed this approach and agreed to continue close coordination with Egypt to promote peace and stability in Africa.
