President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the margins of the G7 Summit.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that President Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation for its partnership with Germany as a key development ally, highlighting ongoing cooperation programs and the steps taken to elevate relations to a strategic partnership. The President invited Chancellor Merz to visit Egypt later this year to continue discussions on bilateral cooperation. He also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to maintain positive economic growth despite global challenges, stressing Cairo’s interest in expanding cooperation with Germany into new areas such as clean energy, green transition, vocational training, and skilled labor mobility to meet German labor market needs and promote regulated migration.
Chancellor Merz, for his part, praised the momentum in Egyptian-German relations, particularly in economic and trade fields, which he said deepens the strong ties between the two countries. He affirmed Germany’s view of Egypt as a strong partner for both Berlin and the European Union in addressing shared challenges and fostering stability and economic integration across the Mediterranean. He expressed gratitude for President Sisi’s invitation and said he looks forward to visiting Egypt soon.
The meeting also addressed regional issues of mutual concern. Both leaders agreed on the importance of supporting peaceful solutions to regional crises, particularly the Palestinian question and the Iranian issue, to safeguard regional stability. President Sisi emphasized the need to keep the Palestinian cause a priority and to implement the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, noting Egypt’s ongoing mediation efforts with the United States and other partners. He expressed hope that Germany would support these efforts toward establishing a Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy.
