PARIS – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met President of the European Council Charles Michel on Thursday on the sidelines of their participation at the international Summit for a New Global Financing Pact hosted by France today and tomorrow under the theme : Building a new consensus for a more inclusive financial system.
Sisi praised relations between Egypt and European countries, asserting keenness on deepening the partnership between both sides and underlining the importance of giving more attention to the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) in the Mediterranean and strengthening coordination to confront regional and international challenges, presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
Michel expressed appreciation of his communication with the Egyptian leader to get better acquainted with Egypt’s stance towards issues of mutual concern, especially that Egypt is regarded an important strategic partner of the European Union.
The meeting took up all aspects of cooperation within the framework of the document on EU-Egypt Partnership Priorities 2021–2027 that guides the relationship and cooperation between the two parties in various areas of shared interest, the spokesman added.
Talks also covered regional security and stability challenges, the problems of refugees, illegal migration, fighting terrorism and extremism and realizing peace in the Middle East as well as the latest developments of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the Sudanese conflict, according to him.
