Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his accompanying delegation in the presence of General Intelligence Service Chief Abbas Kamel, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The discussions focused on the latest joint efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of hostages and captives, Spokesman Fahmy said, adding that both sides agreed to intensify these efforts in the current period.
Also considered during the meeting were Egypt’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
In this respect, President Sisi stressed the importance of rallying international efforts to remove obstacles to the delivery of humanitarian aid as well as the need to end the war on the Strip, prevent further widening of the conflict, and move forward in implementing the two-state solution, Spokesman Fahmy said.
For his part, Secretary Blinken expressed the US Administration’s appreciation for Egypt’s sustained efforts on both political and humanitarian fronts.
He also reaffirmed the commitment to continue joint efforts to restore peace and security in the region, Spokesm Fahmy said.
The meeting, he added, also underscored the strength of the US-Egypt strategic partnership, with both nations emphasising their commitment to maintain coordination on various issues.
