CAIRO- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will head Wednesday to Ankara on an official visit to Türkiye in response to an invitation extended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
President Sisi’s historic visit to Türkiye represents a new leaf in the path of strengthening relations between the two countries, as it is meant to build on the Turkish president’s historic visit to Egypt last February, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
The visit also aims at establishing a new phase of Egypt-Turkish friendship and joint co-operation, at bilateral and regional levels, especially as the region is witnessing many challenges that require continued consultation and coordination between the two sides, the spokesman said.
Both leaders are expected to hold in-depth discussions and co-chair the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Co-operation Council between Egypt and Turkey, he added.
The meeting is scheduled to address ways to advance bilateral relations in a number of domains, in addition to exchanging views regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, most notably ceasefire efforts in the Gaza Strip, bringing the humanitarian tragedy in the Strip to a halt, along with reducing escalation in the Middle East, according to the spokesman.
President Sisi and President Erdogan will also witness the signing of a number of memorandums of understanding between the governments of the two countries covering the various fields of co-operation, he said.
