Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday hailed the glorious July 23 Revolution, highlighting the Revolution’s accomplishment of founding the first republic 70 years ago and proceeding to build a ‘new Egypt’, turning into a source of inspiration for national liberation the world over.
The president also lauded the July Revolution for having walked an important distance along the path for empowering large sections of the public from the sons of farmers and workers.
In a nationally televised address marking the 71st anniversary of the July 23 Revolution on Sunday, President Sisi greeted the Egyptian people, saying the day “reminds us of the struggle of many generations that looked forward to a free and dignified future for Egypt and Egyptians and aspired for getting rid of colonialism and foreign domination”.
President Sisi paid tribute to late president Nasser, leader of the revolution, to late president Mohamed Naguib who assumed responsibility at a critical moment in the history of the nation and to late President Sadat for having faithfully carried the responsibility in war and peace and paid his life as dear price for Egypt’s dignity and future.
Now, 70 years after the founding of the first republic, with the change in the nature of time and challenges, and after the country had passed through major historical events, over the years 2011 to 2014, a difficult period of chaos and instability that threatened the very existence of the state and the capabilities of the people of Egypt, it was necessary for us to seriously think of the future, and the new republic, which represents the historical development of our national march as a great nation, President Sisi said.
The bases and values of the new republic, President Sisi said, build on the preceding one, adding to it rather than cutting from it, and attaching priority to preserving and protecting the nation amidst a global and regional reality the complexity and turmoil of which are increasing in an unprecedented manner.
President Sisi noted that the new republic is the outcome of an unprecedented phase in the history of Egypt, one that has been marred by difficulties and challenges.
He stressed that Egyptians are today well aware that a safe and stable homeland is a top priority and that social and economic development and modernisation is now a necessity for life and not a luxury anymore, he said.
President Sisi noted that the new republic seeks to provide equal job opportunities for all Egyptians, as well as securing a decent life for this generation as well as for future generations.
Egyptians should be proud of what they have achieved in their modern history since independence, President Sisi said, stressing that the country’s national march is moving forward despite difficulties and challenges.
The great Egyptian people have endured a lot and set an example in patience and steadfastness in crises, the president said, asserting that the state will exert utmost effort to provide more job opportunities, increase people’s income, and set new tracks for the development of economy to cope up with the present era as well as with the aspirations of Egyptians.
