President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met European Council President Antonio Costa on Tuesday in the French city of Evian, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
President Sisi expressed appreciation for the growing trajectory of Egypt-EU relations, particularly following the elevation of ties to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the convening of the first Egypt-EU Summit in October 2025, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said.
The president also stressed the importance of continuing efforts to promote co-operation across various fields, mainly in economy, trade and investment, while also enhancing political consultations and coordination between the two sides in support of regional peace and stability, El-Shennawy added.
The meeting also discussed regional developments, as President Sisi welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, voicing hopes that it would help reduce tensions that engulfed the region over recent months.
The Egyptian leader reiterated Cairo’s commitment to working closely with the European side to achieve comprehensive and sustainable solutions to the region’s various crises, noting the convergence of views between Egypt and the EU on a number of key issues.
President Sisi stressed the importance of implementing the provisions of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip, maintaining the ceasefire, ensuring the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid, and swiftly launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts in the territory, the presidency spokesman noted.
For his part, Costa lauded the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union, highlighting the progress achieved in bilateral relations and reaffirming EU’s commitment to strengthening co-operation in areas of mutual interest.
The senior European officials underscored the importance of close coordination between Egypt and the European Union in promoting regional and international peace and resolving ongoing crises.
He highly appreciated Egypt’s role in supporting regional stability and its efforts to advance the negotiating track between the United States and Iran.
Costa further commended the close co-operation between Egypt and the European Union in combating terrorism and irregular migration, noting that such co-operation is essential for peace and prosperity on both shores of the Mediterranean.
