CAIRO – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen discussed over the phone means of enhancing bilateral cooperation and coordination between Egypt and the European Union on regional issues.
In statements on Monday, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said that President Sisi, during the telephone call, expressed keenness on promoting cooperation and dialogue between the two sides in light of the shared interests and challenges.
For her part, the EC chief expressed the European Union’s appreciation of the strong and distinguished ties between Egypt and the EU, stressing the Union’s keenness on continued strengthening of cooperation with Egypt at different levels.
She also lauded President Sisi’s vision to achieve comprehensive development in the country, genuine efforts to fight terrorism and Egypt’s successful experiment in combating illegal immigration.
The two sides also discussed a host of other issues and the latest regional developments, the spokesman said.
For her part, the EC chief expressed the European side’s keenness on coordinating with President Sisi on several key regional and international issues, topped by Egypt’s hosting of the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27) in the Red Sea city of Sharm El Sheikh in November.
They also agreed on the necessity of continuing consultation and exchanging views at the bilateral and international levels with a view to reaching political settlements to regional crises and preserving peace and security in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Mediterranean region.
