President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi joined the Egyptian Family Iftar at the Air Force House on Saturday. The event was attended by senior officials, including the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Pope of Alexandria, and the Defense Minister, along with ministers and representatives of Egyptian society.
In his speech, the President said Egypt faces difficult regional and economic challenges. He explained that wars in the Gulf, Gaza, and Iran affect Egypt directly, raising energy and food prices. He stressed Egypt condemns attacks on Arab states and supports dialogue and peace.
President Sisi admitted the government had to raise fuel prices, though it was a painful decision. He said Egypt spends about $20 billion a year on petroleum products, mostly for electricity. If citizens paid the real cost, electricity bills would be four times higher.
He noted Egypt lost $10 billion in Suez Canal revenues due to global crises. He asked the government to explain policies clearly to the public to ensure transparency. He also said Egypt aims to produce 42% renewable energy by 2030, and possibly earlier.
The President announced new social support packages for low- and middle-income families. He warned against borrowing in foreign currency to cover basic needs, saying this leads to debt traps. He urged strict action against market exploitation.
President Sisi also called for stronger cultural and artistic work that reflects Egyptian values. He reminded citizens of past crises in 2010–2011 and stressed unity and caution as the region changes.
