Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended on Tuesday a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Awqaf on the occasion of Lailatulqadr (The Night of Power), said presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
Muslims celebrate Lailatulqadr on Ramdan 27 every year where the Holy Quran was sent down from Heaven to the Prophet Muhammed.
The ceremony, which was held at Al Manara International Conference Center in New Cairo Tuesday morning, was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed El Tayyeb.
It was also attended by speaker of the House of Representatives Hanafy Gebali, Senate president Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq, Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and state senior officials.
Upon arrival at the celebration hall, the president was keen on shaking hands with Dr. Ahmed Omar Hashim, former president of Al Azhar University, member of Al Azhar Council for Senior Scholars and member of Al Azhar Islamic Research Academy.
The celebration started by verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a speech by the minister of Awqaf in which he asserted that the celebration of Lailatulqadr affirmed the state’s interest in serving the Quran and honoring those memorize it.
The minister of Awqaf pointed out to the 29th international competition on the memorization of the Holy Quran and explaining its meanings, which will be organized by the ministry.
Gomaa said the president will honor top memorizers of the Quran, adding the president was keen on improving the living conditions of preachers.
He said the ministry is keen on training its imams to disseminate the upright teachings of Islam that serve building homelands and support coexistence.
Minister Gomaa presented president Sisi with a copy of the Holy Quran.
