CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness on supporting the judicial authority’s role in the African societies.

President Sisi, meanwhile, stressed the importance of popular awareness in promoting the role of the law and judicial institutions, with a view of supporting countries to confront the challenges which pose a threat to their entity.

This came during President Sisi’s meeting Sunday with the presidents of African constitutional and supreme courts participating in the Sixth High Level Meeting for the Chief Justices and Presidents of the African Constitutional and Supreme Courts and Constitutional Councils.

The meeting was held in the presence of President of the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) Judge Boulos Fahmy Eskandar and deputies of SCC president, including Mohamed el-Nagar, Fatma el Razaz and Tarek Shebl.

During the meeting, President Sisi welcomed the presidents of the African courts, affirming Egypt’s keenness on supporting the judicial authority’s role in the African societies, said Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi.

The judicial-related efforts became a necessity in light of the challenges besetting the African countries, especially in issues related to the rights of citizenship, refugees and immigrants, affirmed President Sisi during the meeting.

For his part, Judge Fahmy said that President Sisi’s sponsoring of the conference is a great honor.

He also lauded President Sisi’s keenness on promoting awareness about the importance of judicial independence and promoting the role played by the constitutional courts in laying the foundations for democracy and advancing development.

The participants, meanwhile, said that they were honored to meet with President Sisi, lauding the vital role played by the conference in promoting judicial co-operation between the African constitutional courts, said the presidential spokesman.

The meeting tackled the most pressing issues on the African arena, especially those related to the role of constitutional courts in safeguarding the countries’ sovereignty.

The participants also voiced keenness on benefiting from Egypt’s successful experiment, which is considered a model in respecting the rule of law and judicial independence.
