President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for expanding the project of lining and upgrading canals as well as providing additional resources for this purpose as part of the Decent Life initiative, given the environmental and economic impact of the project and its contribution to saving irrigation water and increasing agricultural productivity.

The President’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Saeed, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, the President urged the government to expand the and generalise the automation of all government services, taking advantage of the current efforts to develop the Egyptian countryside. The President also reviewed the strategic goals of the sustainable development plan.

Minister el-Saeed reviewed the sustainable development plan, which is based on the strict commitment to the implementation of the President’s initiatives to provide a decent life for the Egyptian citizen in line of the objectives of the national agenda to achieve sustainable development as part of Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The minister also highlighted the increased public spending on health, education and scientific research as well as efforts to contain the coronavirus pandemic and to address its economic and social repercussions.

The President was also briefed on the strategic goals of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2022/2021, which included enhancing the role of public spending in social protection and implementing the decent life initiatives, the development of the Egyptian family in order to control population growth and women’s health initiatives that cover about 30 million women.

He also instructed the government to direct public investments towards green projects as well as strengthening the capabilities of state institutions to face the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic by increasing the capacity of health facilities as well as expanding efforts to automate services.

The president also called for improving the quality of medical services, including through university hospitals as well as expanding the application of the comprehensive health insurance system. He also called for increasing the provision of quality educational services through the establishment of public universities in all governorates.
