President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting on Wednesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Essmat.

According to Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy, the meeting reviewed efforts to support the national energy grid. The minister of electricity outlined ongoing efforts to expand renewable energy production and integrate it into the grid as part of a broader modernisation strategy, carried out in co-operation with relevant ministries, as well as through stronger partnerships with both domestic and international private sectors.

President Sisi also followed up on plans to scale up the use of battery storage technology and establish a number of storage stations linked to renewable energy projects. These initiatives aim to maximise the use of renewable sources, enhance grid stability, and speed up technical studies and regulations for future projects.

The president stressed the importance of increasing reliance on locally manufactured equipment, supporting the state’s plan to localise modern technology, and determining the percentage of local components in projects that support and develop the grid. This aims to keep pace with the addition of new generation capacities, consider the geographical distribution of connection points, and, ultimately, ensure stable and continuous power supply, while meeting the requirements of the state’s sustainable development plan.

The president directed the government to add more renewable energy capacity to Egypt’s energy mix, adopt quality standards and economic efficiency in operations, and improve service levels.

He stressed the importance of coordination across all relevant entities in implementing grid expansion plans, while reinforcing Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.

President Sisi further underscored the need to maximise returns from renewable resources and ensure sound management of the country’s natural energy wealth.
