Sisi, Macron discuss regional developments

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

According to Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy, the discussion focused on the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and France, with both leaders stressing the importance of stepping up joint efforts to activate the strategic partnership agreement between the two countries, particularly in the economic, trade, and investment fields.

The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments. President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s intensive efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid amid the catastrophic crisis in the enclave.

President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land or to undermine their legitimate rights, foremost among them is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Sisi also welcomed France’s decision to recognise the State of Palestine in September 2025, describing it as an important step toward delivering justice to the Palestinian people and enabling them to obtain their full rights.

For his part, President Macron expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s mediation efforts to end the war, underscoring the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and the resolution of the international legitimacy.

He also stressed the urgency of launching the reconstruction process in Gaza Strip.

Both presidents affirmed their determination to continue strengthening coordination between Egypt and France, particularly in light of the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East, and in view of their shared perspectives on most regional issues and crises.
